For most of Christianity the doctrine of the Trinity is part of the foundational faith. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost and these three are one God. I never could understand how one plus one plus one could equal — one! To me, three ones equal three. But as a lot of other parts of theology, this is just another “mystery”. “With God all things are possible”. Anything that scholars and theologians are not able to explain away, they just call it a mystery.
The Origin of the Doctrine of the Trinity?
Some people believe that the doctrine of the Trinity came from a Greek religion, that also was popular at the time of Jesus Christ, whose god was called Serapis Christus that originated in Egypt. Serapis was three gods in one god. The father was Osiris, the son was Hermes and the bull was Apis.
Christian Bishops in Serapis “Christus” Cult?
A strange “coincident” about this is that the bishops of this religion were called “Christians”; in the religious center of the Greeks was Antioch was a great temple where they worshiped this strange god Serapis Chrestus (or Christos — I’ve seen many different spellings).
Antioch was the City Where the “Disciples Were First Called Christians”.
Paul the apostle preached there for a whole year with Barnabas (Acts 11:26; Gal. 1:21-2:1)
And it came to pass, that a whole year _they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. (Acts 11:26)
There are only 2 places in the (modern) New Testament where the definition of the Trinity is mentioned:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Mat 28:19)
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1 John 5:7)
(Both of these verses are obviously not original and have suffered severe interpolations as explained and laid out in a previous article)
The insertion of this false doctrine of the Trinity is not only a fabrication but is also contrary to all logic and reasoning. During the evolution of the Christian Church, there was much influence of Greek and Roman concepts.
A Short History of Serapis Christus
Traditionally in Christianity “Christus” was a word that referred to Jesus Christ. It is thought that the “three in one god” concept, that is not scriptural, was derived from the Graeco-Egyptian god “Serapis Christus” as far back as around 300 BCE in Egypt. The Graeco-Egyptian cult of Serapis Christus was a very popular religion until around the 4th century CE when Christianity took control. The center of the Serapis cult, the Serapium, was destroyed by the Christians around 391 CE, which put an end to the worship of the god Serapis Christus.
Christianity Absorbs Concepts of Serapis Christus Cult ?
However, it seems that in the first century, with the conversion of many Greeks by the Apostle Paul, some of the concepts of the Serapis cult hung on and were absorbed into Christianity by the new converts, formerly Serapis Christos worshipers. “The disciples were first called “Christians” at Antioch” as it says in Acts 11:26.
Evidently, the name Christian was born from the association with worshipers of the Serapis “Christus” cult. It was said that the Bishops of the cult were called “Christians”. It appears that some of the concepts of the Christianity were adopted from cult of Serapis Christus: the name Christianity, the Trinity (three in one god Serapis) and Bishops. The word bishop was not known with the early Jewish believers. Leaders of the early church were known as priests, as it was for hundreds of years before.
“Mashiach”, Hebrew word for Messiah, NOT Christ.
Even the Greek word Christus or Christ in English, which is generally considered to mean messiah (or mashiach in Hebrew), was not originally a Hebrew word. So it is very probable that the idea of the Trinity was not originally a Christian concept, but carried over from a gentile concept that originated as far back as around 300 BCE in Egypt with the invention of the three-in-one-god, Serapis Christus.
